Can machine-made sand be used for concrete instead of river sand?

Due to the consideration of resource protection, there are more and more restrictions on the exploitation of natural river sand. At present, most of the river sand is produced through river dredging and other means, which cannot be supplied continuously and stably for a long time. In addition, the gradation of river sand is difficult to control artificially, and to some extent, the quality cannot be guaranteed for a long time.

Sea sand has the advantage of large resource reserves. In order to alleviate the current tight supply of sand and gravel resources, Guangdong has made certain arrangements to promote the development and utilization of sea sand. However, the desalination of sea sand and other processing procedures require high requirements, and the initial investment is relatively large.

Relatively speaking, the advantages of machine-made sand are more prominent, but its production process is very power-consuming and energy-consuming, and the current standard of China’s machine-made sand has not yet been formed, resulting in uneven product quality in the market and lack of high-end quality machine-made sand. At this stage, the complete use of machine-made sand is not recommended. In fact, from the perspective of Hong Kong standards, concrete below C60 can be completely used with stone chips, and above C60 can be mixed with a small amount of river sand. It will be more environmentally friendly and economical to make in this way. It is hoped that stone chips can also be considered when domestic standards are formulated.
